Description

The Brandenburg-Prussian army is definitely a defensive force. It consists of two pillars: the local troops and the enlisted troops. The local troops do not present outstanding skills, but they are relatively numerous and cost few points, which in the reality of the game translates into the possibility of choosing a convenient scenario, in which they play their preferred role as defenders. Avoiding hand-to-hand combat by infantry and focusing on firefighting will be a frequently used strategy. Quality in the Brandenburg-Prussian army is provided by experienced mercenary units. Reiters developed in the 16th century in the northern German countries. Mercenary cavalry was equipped with pistols and swords, some units also in arquebuses. During the 17th century, armor slowly disappeared, but there were still units equipped with them. Despite, that caracol was still used, the most popular method of fighting was striving for close combat right after firing a volley from pistols. Apart from the mercenary reiters, in Prussia existed units of Prussian reiters, which were part of local militia. Those units were formed from Prussian nobility obliged for horse service
(rossdienst) in exchange for a land grant.

Prussian musketeers - apart from the regular soldiers, peasants were also obliged to serve in infantry formations. Prussian militia units included only musketers and their tactics were the same as in other western armies.
