GREY

In a world where the "People" live in horrid, squalid slums and "Citizens" enjoy comforts in the splendid "City," the only way up and out is to fight. But what is their real reward at the end of the battle? Grey Death is determined to find out-not to mention survive! Acclaimed science fiction author Harlan Ellison writes: "GREY is a wonderful adventure story that uses ideas in the best possible fashion: as motivational impetus for a crackling good tale of survival and the development of a fascinating character. And if Grey himself is less than lovable, it is an important comment on how a society made for war can debase and chill its citizens, GREY is also a powerful statement about the demeaning caste systems we create to keep others 'in their place. And all of this, in a stylish pictorial presentation."

PERFECT COLLECTION VOL. 2

In the twenty-sixth century, the remnants of humanity, dubbed "People," live in horrid, squalid slums controlled by supercomputers. Some, like Grey Death, seek to better their circumstances by becoming "Troopers," warriors rewarded for their labors with the promise of earning the status of "Citizens," who enjoy the comforts of the splendid "City."

Now Grey meets a halfling (a kind of cyborg) and a mysterious, fearless woman named Lara, who set him on the path to learning the true nature of Earth's brutal meritocracy. What is the terrible secret that the world's computer overseers don't ever want Grey to learn?

Yoshihisa Tagami is one of those manga prodigies who was still barely out of his teens when his work debuted in 1978. His first publication, entitled ZASHIKI WARASHI, took its title from an old folk tale popular in the rugged northeastern area of Japan where Tagami was born and raised. This work foreshadowed the diversity of story and theme to follow in Tagami's later creations. His most popular manga include the romantic comedy KARUIZAWA SYNDROME, adapted into an animation series for television, and the science fiction tale ISHI NO KIOKU.
