Baseball Heroes III

The first two Baseball Heroes sets were sell-outs and Strat-O-Matic fans have been clamoring for a third set. Here it is – 117 more players among the best in the game. Some will become Hall of Famers. Others were simply top stars in their day. All are based on the best seven seasons of their career, set up both for Strat-O-Matic’s Elementary game and with all Super Advanced features. That makes them compatible with such other popular specialty sets as the Hall of Fame and Negro Stars. Many gamers love to combine those with all three Heroes sets to form their own custom teams.

But you can play this set on its own, too, with enough players to form at least four fully staffed teams. Put such recently retired stars as Ichiro Suzuki, Carlos Beltran, Joe Mauer, Chase Utley, Troy Tulowitzki and Adrian Beltre in your lineups. Have them face Felix Hernandez, C.C. Sabathia, Bartolo Colon, Josh Beckett and J.R. Richard. See if they can square up the fastballs from such dominant relief pitchers as Joe Nathan, Jonathan Papelbon, Robb Nen and Francisco “K-Rod” Rodriguez.

For the first time, a Heroes set will include a few active players, such as Albert Pujols, who pretty clearly have already had the best seven years of their career – in his case, his first 10 seasons were Hall of Fame-caliber.

Heroes sets always represent decades of baseball history and this set offers such bygone heroes as Ted Kluszewski, Dick McAuliffe, Sal Maglie and Virgil Trucks. Thanks to recently available statistics, this set also includes more Dead Ball stars, such as outfielders Sherry Magee and Bobby Veach, infielder Larry Doyle and fireballer Smokey Joe Wood.
