Description

The Transall C-160 is a Franco-German high-wing transport plane from the Cold War and modern times. The prototype flight took place in 1963, and the machine was produced in 1965-1985. In total, about 220 examples of this aircraft were built. In the basic version - C-160 - the machine is 32.4 m long with a wingspan of 40 meters. The drive is provided by two Rolls-Royce Tyne turboprop engines with a capacity of 6100 KM each. The top speed is up to 590 km / h, and the operating range with a 16-ton load is approx. 1,850 kilometers. The machine has no on-board armament.

The Transall C-160 Gabriel was designed and manufactured by the Transporter Allianz consortium of MBB, Aerospatiale and VFW-Fokker. The plane was created primarily for the use of the French and German air forces as the most modern medium-range transport plane possible. It is worth adding that the French Armee de L'air wanted to replace the Nord Noratlas aircraft, and its successor was to be the C-160. Several development versions were created in the course of serial production, for example: C-160D (version produced for Germany), C-160F (transport version for the French Air Force) or C-160G Gabriel (electronic reconnaissance version for Armee de L'air) . Currently, airplanes of this type are being replaced by Airbus A-400M Atlas machines.

The Transall C-160 is a light, twin-engine military transport aircraft that has served in Germany, France, South Africa and Turkey. The Transall consortium was founded in January 1959 to create a joint multi-role transport aircraft for the military aviation of France and Germany. After the definition phase, the development and testing of three prototypes and six pre-series C-160A units began, in 1967 the project was ready for mass production. France bought 50 C-160Fs, Germany ordered 110 C-160Ds, but the last 20 were sold to Turkey. Production was stopped in 1972, but resumed in 1977. The goal was to build a 29 C-160NG with special air refueling devices for France. Deliveries took place in 1981-85 and 210 units in 9 versions were produced. The crew consisted of 3 pilots, and the plane could take up to 93 soldiers or 16 tons of cargo. Technical data: Maximum speed: 593 km / h, speed of climb: 6.6 m / s, maximum ceiling 8230 m, maximum range: 1853 km.
