Description

A fine chess set is a mark of distinction suitable for display in even the most distinguished of rooms. Michael Ricker, the world renowned metalsmith, provides the types of sets that satisfy the most discerning of collectors with their elegantly crafted, highly detailed pieces. Their artistry is truly peerless, and none can contest their timeless elegance.

This set features the classic circus as its subject, with dwarves serving as pawns, ticket booths as rooks, trick-riding horses as knights, clowns as bishops, and, the ringmaster and an acrobat serving as king and queen respectively. The king leads the troupe at a commanding ??? inches tall. Unlike most sets, this one is not displayed on a board, rather the pieces are placed riding on a matching circus wagon with one color of piece featured on each side. The full display includes the wagon drawn by a pair of zebra down a cobblestone road measuring ??? making it an even more unique showpiece than a traditional chess set of comparable quality.

This particular piece is in superb condition for its age. The braided wire reigns on the wagon's zebras are kinked and twisted in a few places and they along with the zebra and wagon themselves show light signs of discoloration in a few places, overall this appears very minor and does not significantly impact the aestetics of the item. Four of the platforms the pieces stand on near the wheels are bent, however it is consistant across all of them and appears intentional to the design. The gold capping on the axels is worn slightly. Other than these damages, there are no substnatial issues with the items condition making the complete piece EX in condition.

Additional photos avialable upon request.

Included with the set is an appraisal from Michael Ricker dated 1994, showing the piece's continued growth as a prized piece of art. A scant 250 of these sets were ever produced making each one a precious treasure, and an opportunity not to be misse
