Description

We had to wait for awhile, but at least has landed in our territory, in its colonization mission, the spaceship which brings the fantastic songs devised by the overflowing imagination of Steve Lines (all instruments; writer of all the songs; designer of all artwork) and his sweet singer Louise Allen. Two unique characters which have brought back in the best possible way the spirit of such funny, missed bands as THE TRUDY or THE REZILLOS, sharing references as well with outer space acts like MAN OR ASTROMAN.

A few years ago we released a single by STORMCLOUDS, already sold out, with four splendid songs of bright fuzz-pop and charming galactic imagery (all of them featured on this CD), which provoked many impatient mail and telephone calls to our office, asking for the release date of their full-length album. Now we have passed the delay, we find a great album, fresh and full of winks to all the teeny trash culture myths you can imagine, which would have made the ideal soundtrack for Tim Burton’s “Mars Attacks”.

Because in “Not Of This Earth” we can, as in an X-Files ghost episode, follow the tracks that lead us to cult series as Star Trek (Dr Spock and Captain Kirk are guest stars on “He’s Dead Jim”) or The Twilight Zone, and a whole childhood and teenage years devouring cheap novels and B-series black and white movies until late night. The chorus of “Psychotronic” betrays them: “...when I’m not watching TV I read comics...”.

These dearly loved references serve to give even more charm, if possible, to a bunch of songs which mix homemade technology with the naïveté of the first years of rock’n’roll, and which has as much of teenage fuzz-pop as of the delicious spirit of the girl groups from the sixties. A concept album, if you want to, but not boring at all: Isaac Asimov favest album ever.
