Description

Gladiator: Quest for the Rudis is a tactical level combat card game based on the blood sport that reached its peak of popularity between 75 BC and 63 BC. Gladiators were mostly condemned slaves sentenced to train, and eventually die, in the arena for the entertainment of the Romans. However, Roman citizens and even Roman emperors opted to fight as “gladiators,” be it for gold or glory. But it was only those slaves whose fates were to live life as gladiators who quested for the rudis. The rudis was nothing more than a symbolic wooden sword, and yet it represented the ultimate prize to a slave-gladiator. To be awarded the rudis meant fame and possibly fortune, but most of all it meant... freedom.

Gladiator: Quest for the Rudis places you on the sandy floor of the arena, in the role of a slave gladiator with deadly attacks and deft defenses at your disposal. Play as a light gladiator, protected only by cloth padding and a piece of leather, but with maneuverability to strike at an unprotected flank or back; or don the manica, ocrea and helmet of the heavy gladiator, wearing metal armor and carrying a large rectangular shield, a 22-pound scutum, making you a stalking, nearly impregnable, death dealer.

No matter what style of gladiator you wish to play, Gladiator: Quest for the Rudis, will delight you with its attention to detail. Taking into account historical research on the cruel but fascinating “sport” of gladiatorial combat, while giving a passing nod to the cinematic license portrayed in popular movies like Gladiator and Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Gladiator: Quest for the Rudis provides all the excitement, variety and challenge of combat in the arenas of Rome.
