The Dark Realms Epic Adventure Game: Professions Sourcebook is a player guide books that delves into optional Professional Kits that player characters may buy into to help further develop more specialized skill sets. You might think of Dark Realms professions as your standard “Classes” often used in other types of role-playing games, but the familiarity is slight at best.

In Dark Realms, players may buy Professional Kits for their characters. These kits are purchased with Experience Points, the same way everything else in the Dark Realms is improved. A professional Kit is a cluster of Skills and Attribute modifiers that allows a character to advance in a more focused manner as they earn and spend Experience Points. Professions are meant to mirror advancement towards the Skills of a specific vocation or way of life, such as being an Assassin, Mercenary, Smith (Blacksmith, Swordsmith, etc), Nomad and so on. Buying into a Professional Kit costs 20 Experience Points and when purchased it grants the character a baseline ability in a number of Skills associated with that profession. Additionally, once purchased, a Professional Kit will modify the Experience Point cost to advance certain Skills and Attributes, making some less expensive to advance and others more expensive.

Characters may acquire more than one Professional Kit, but modifiers from multiple kits do not “stack”, may actually cancel each other, so only certain Professional Kits will complement each other.
