German Bombers Over England

As Hitler's troops celebrated the conquest of France, the Germans prepared to unleash the largest and most aggressive bomber force in the world on their hapless British enemy. Directing the bulk of their forces against RAF bases in the south of England, the Luftwaffe began a punishing series of daylight raids. In addition Luftwaffe bombers flew against ports and key installations across Britain. By September 1940, the emphasis had switched to attacking London and, from then to the final year of the war, the Luftwaffe bombers--flying by day or by night--were directed against British cities.
